Full Day Kindergarten FDK
|
Page Content The Full Day Learning Kindergarten model was implemented in September 2010. The Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten full day classrooms have a team of Early Years educators which include a qualified teacher and qualified ECE. Together the team offers complementary skills that create a learning environment to support the unique needs of each child. With two qualified professionals in the classroom for the full school day, there is more time for individual and small group instruction. The program is play based where students are given opportunities to grow, explore, investigate, create and learn. Currently the Wellington Catholic District School Board has six sites that have the ELKP. These sites include St. Mary- Mount Forest, St. John Brebeuf-Erin, St. John-Arthur, and St. Peter, St. Joseph and Sacred Heart which are all located in Guelph. In September 2012 the following schools will also have the program St. Francis, St. John and St. Michael schools in Guelph and St. Joseph in Fergus. Additional sites in 2013 will include Holy Rosary, Mary Phelan and St. Patrick in Guelph and St. Mary in Elora. In the final year of implementation, 2014 the following schools will offer Full Day Kindergarten, Holy Trinity, St. Ignatius and St. Paul which are all situated in Guelph. Some sites may offer an integrated before- and after-school program which provides children with more opportunities to learn and grow and provides a seamless day with fewer transitions for children and families.
