All elementary schools within the Wellington Catholic District School Board are engaged in the
implementation of the School Effectiveness Framework as initiated by the Literacy and Numeracy
Secretariat. This compliments our proven commitment to the value of Catholic education as a fundamental
gift and responsibility.
Our School Effectiveness Framework celebrates the talents of our educators and highlights the natural
alignment of school improvement planning with enriched learning opportunities for our students.
The empirical information on which the framework is based will provide meaningful reflection and
dialogue within our schools with a focus on the needs of the student and the teacher in the classroom. We
look forward with great anticipation to the discussions, and to the collective will and informed practice that
will emanate from the school self-assessment process and provide a more informed understanding of our
students and the needs of our schools.
School improvement planning is at the heart of the framework to continue the effort of our school system to
deepen instructional effectiveness. The key purposes of the framework are to:
build District and school capacity in identifying strengths, any areas which require attention, and next
steps;
foster introspection, reflection and analysis;
lead to better improvement planning with precision and purpose;
act as a catalyst for collaborative and collegial conversations about improvement from within;
implement high-yield research-based strategies;
provide a forum for consensus building around school improvement;
develop a deeper understanding of the unique improvement needs of schools; and
communicate, celebrate and continue to build public confidence around school effectiveness.
As a Catholic school system, we embrace and learn from the teachings of Jesus Christ through His Church.
We shall continue to build on the relationship of the student, the home and the Church. This framework
must be understood and supported by all parties. We intend to work toward that objective.
Thank you for your work in Catholic Education - regardless of your role.
