Innovative ‘green’ products and technologies at Wellington Catholic

Students at Wellington Catholic may soon receive an insider’s look at what the future holds for the health their generation and of the planet.

The Wellington Catholic District School Board has received funding approval under the Green Schools Pilot Initiative for 3 projects.

The District, through this pilot, will have the ability to purchase, test and showcase new and innovative green products and technologies.

The three projects that will be funded include:
  1. 1. Installation of a daylight harvesting system at 2 schools. The daylight harvesting system allows individual light fixtures to be automatically and individually controlled and adjust lighting levels based on ambient/outside light
  2. 2. Installation of a 10 kW rooftop solar panel photovoltaic (PV) system at 1 school. The solar PV system will convert solar energy into electricity which can be fed back into the school or into the electrical grid. There is also an education monitoring/software package included with the system.
  3. 3. Installation of a domestic solar water heating system at 1 school. This system will use solar energy to heat water for domestic uses in a school.
Announcements for the pilot schools selected across the District will be forthcoming.
