Board Chair, Marino Gazzola, delivered his Inaugural Address at the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees on Monday, January 14, 2019.
Marino Gazzola began by thanking his fellow trustees for the confidence they have placed in him and noting the privilege and honour it is to serve as the Board Chair.
Highlighting the 180 year legacy of excellence in Catholic education, Gazzola acknowledged both the challenges we potentially face related to the future funding of education as well as the opportunities. He spoke passionately about the responsibility of all stakeholders to put students first.
Gazzola emphasized: “We all have the same purpose, to educate our students, and we all have the same goal, to ensure that the students reach their potential. Students are the reason all of us are here…educating our students, and the well-being of our student’s education shall always be our prime concern in making decisions, be they programming, financial, capital or facility related.”
Echoing the themes of the Bishops’ recent Pastoral letter, Renewing the Promise, Mr. Gazzola noted that our schools and places of learning are places of accompaniment, engagement, hope and joy. “We are and will always be proud of who we are and what we have accomplished.”
The Wellington Catholic District School Board is committed to supporting student success in all of our 22 schools. Our academic and extracurricular programs give our 7800 students the opportunity to learn, lead and serve. Grounded in faith based teaching, our schools are preparing students with the values and academic skills they need to be successful 21st century citizens.
