A message to all school communities regarding cases of influenza in the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph region

Public Health has informed the school board that influenza is circulating in the communities of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph. This is a community-wide concern and is not specific to any school. Public Health has stated that the risk of contracting the flu is not related to going to school, but rather being in the community in any place people congregate.

Influenza is a serious respiratory illness and the flu season is not over. Public Health is urging families to get the flu shot, if they haven’t done so already.

To help facilitate this, Public Health is adding extended clinic hours this weekend:

Guelph:

  • Friday Feb. 9: 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

  • Saturday Feb. 10: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Fergus:

  • Friday Feb. 9: 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

  • Saturday Feb. 10: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Orangeville:

  • Friday Feb. 9: 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

  • Saturday Feb. 10: 10:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

If your child is showing symptoms of the flu, please keep them home until they are well enough to attend school.

Members of the community can call to get more information about the flu and getting the flu shot at 1-800-265-7293 or (519) 822-2715 ext. 4752.
