St. John Brebeuf Catholic School Provides 25 Hampers in Annual Christmas Food Drive

If you were driving down Millwood Road in Erin last Friday, you may have been met by a pickup truck filled to the brim with donations.

Heading from St. John Brebeuf Catholic School to the East Wellington Community Services Food Bank, the truck housed items received from their annual Christmas Food Drive and Adopt a Family Campaign.

“Students are happy to bring in items, everyone participates. It’s almost a reflex we see when we are called to provide support and help in the community,” said Lowell Butts, Principal at St. John Brebeuf. “The charitable impulse has always been very high, we have a very generous parent and local community that gets behind initiatives there is a gratitude for what they have.”

In past years, the annual campaign at St. John Brebeuf would see the school community contribute to a local family in need. This year however, with the onset of the COVID-19 safety guidelines, the East Wellington Advisory Group requested that the school provide their support through gift cards, as well as a set item list of hygiene products.

“No matter who is here, that charitable impulse is what we are called as a community,” said Butts. “Answering that call is something we are happy to do.”

And answering the call is just what the St. John Brebeuf community did – seeing 25 hampers donated to the Food Bank.

If you are looking to continue the St. John Brebeuf’s intention, the East Wellington Community Service Food Bank is calling for donations of soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, brushes, laundry soap, dish detergent, scrubbing sponges, dishcloths, dishtowels, all-purpose cleaner, and glass cleaner.
