Bishop's Dinner to Support CW Food Bank Initiatives

Centre Wellington Food Bank has been named as one of the four beneficiaries for the reimagined Bishop’s Dinner.

Each year for the past 19 years, the Wellington Catholic District School Board has organized the Bishop’s Dinner to raise funds to support organizations within the Guelph and Wellington community.

The CW Food Bank, a member of Food Banks Canada and Feed Ontario, is committed to easing hunger in Centre Wellington’s Community in a compassionate and supportive environment.

Serving over 9,000 meals on a yearly basis, including regular and drop-in Food Bank visits, monthly Community Dinners and special programs/events, the Food Bank has around 7,000 interactions with those seeking help.

"What’s wonderful about this food bank is that we pioneer market space. It is a small market, families shop for their own food, we don’t package anything," explained Fred Aleksandrowicz, managing director of the CW Food Bank.

The Food Bank operates in a grocery store structure, seeing individuals entering the market space with the ability to do their own shopping. The market really runs off community support, even receiving excess foods from local fast food restaurants and grocery stores.

“Nothing is thrown out, nothing is wasted,” he explained.

If they have excess foods from bulk donations, the CW Food Bank will use it in their commercial kitchen – they were one of the first foodbanks in Canada to do this. The group will cook a handful of times a week, offering the food for pickup from clients.

COVID-19 caused many program changes, yet hundreds were involved with the fundraisers, food drives and the modified Christmas Hamper and Angel Programs - as well as day-to-day operations. They are grateful to be part of such a kind and supportive community.

In addition to the CW Food Bank net proceeds will be directed to the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington, the CMHA WW, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Guelph and Wellington County.

The annual Bishop’s Dinner will return in a reimagined hybrid format on October 21, 2021. To purchase tickets or provide a donation, please visit
