Sacred Heart Catholic School in Guelph Certified as Provider of the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Programme

Sacred Heart Catholic School in Guelph has been certified as the only local public provider of the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Programme.

This past July, Sacred Heart in Guelph received the designation of IB World School, making them full-fledged members of the International Baccalaureate Schools of Ontario. It is only the second IB Primary Years Programme offered in a publicly funded school in Ontario.

“The authorization process was a rich experience because it asked us to critically reflect on education today and its purpose. From this, we designed goals to foster a community of learners, both staff and students, and instilled a commitment to continuous growth. With the authorization in place, we realize that our journey has just begun and the work to bettering students’ educational experience so that it transfers to life beyond school is an on-going process,” shared Natasha Finoro, IB resource teacher at Sacred Heart in Guelph.

The IB PYP for children aged 3 – 12 nurtures and develops young students as caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning by offering an inquiry-based curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding. The program has evolved to become a world leader in future-focused education, recognized as an example of best educational practice globally, responding to the challenges and opportunities facing young students in our rapidly changing world.

Sacred Heart's authorization as an IB World School has been a culmination of years of hard work and preparation for Sacred Heart staff members and Wellington Catholic senior administration.

“We are extremely proud of the staff and students of Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School, Guelph, for their dedication throughout the authorization process,” shared Michael Glazier, Director of Education for Wellington Catholic DSB. “The Primary Years Program offers an enriched learning experience for our students in a faith-based education setting.”
