Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (commonly referred to as OYAP) works hand in hand with the Co-operative Education Program at both Wellington Catholic and the Upper Grand District School Board.

OYAP is a specialized school to work option that offers students co-operative education credits for work experience placements in skilled trades.  These work experiences for Grade 11 and 12 students are intended to open the door to apprenticeship opportunities during a student's senior high school years and can lead to apprenticeship registration for students.

Wellington Catholic and the Upper Grand District School Board has collaborated since 1976 to jointly manage the Co-operative Education program.  Shared policies, procedures, facilities and personnel have strengthened the experiential learning programs for students.  With the amalgamation of the Wellington County Board of Education and the Dufferin County Board of Education in 1998, schools and students in Dufferin County are also served.  In September 2000, Wellington Catholic and the Upper Grand combined their individual programs into a single OYAP program with joint personnel and practices.
