Technology Enabled Learning
Information technology should be used as a tool to enhance instructional practices.
Professional learning for staff in the area of information technology should be effective, differentiated and ongoing.
All students should have equitable access to information technology to develop the global competencies necessary for their learning.
Data must be secure, accurate, and accessible so that it can be interpreted to inform decision-making.
Increasingly, global competencies (e.g. transferrable skills), are being recognized by researchers and employers as essential for student success in an interconnected world. The term "global competencies" encompasses knowledge, skills and attitudes/values. The need to develop global competencies has always been at the core of learning and innovation. The following document provides a focus for discussions among ministry and external education, policy, and research experts about how best to shape provincial policy to help students develop the 21st century competencies they need to succeed.
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
BYOD supports student learning by allowing them to bring their own electronic devices to school for educational purposes. It empowers students to become the experts with the device they have and to customize it to their learning needs and when used beyond the school day, they can seamlessly switch from personal use to learning anytime, anywhere.
Students are expected to use devices responsibly, and only with the permission and direction of teachers or other staff members.
