It is that time of year once again where we prepare for the possibility of inclement weather. Each year, situations arise which may require bus cancellations or the closure of a school or schools in the district.
Bus Cancellations
Decisions about bus cancellations or school closures generally occur by 6:15 a.m. and are posted to the Wellington-Dufferin Student Transportation Services (STWDSTS) website, their social media account and the STWDSTS Bus Planner Delays App by 6:30 a.m. Unless otherwise noted, schools will remain open to students and staff when buses are cancelled.
In situations where buses are cancelled for the day and schools remain open, staff will be on site to welcome students who are attending school for in-person learning. Parents should always assess weather and road conditions in these situations and make their own decisions to send their child to school, or not.
Closures
School closure decisions are made in consultation with transportation services as well as school board staff and officials. When a school site will be closed, this information is shared directly to families via email, on school websites and through local media to alert those who may be impacted.
In emergency situations where it is necessary to close a school during the day, school administrators will work with members of senior administration in making this decision and will communicate this information to parents in the school community.
On days where there is a school closure or a system-wide school shut down, teachers will post information to their class D2L page by 10:30 a.m. Instruction on these days may include synchronous and/or asynchronous instruction and will focus on review of concepts rather than instruction of new materials. It is recognized that not all students will be able to connect with educators throughout the day due to their personal circumstance (e.g., access to technology/internet, childcare situations, etc.).
