AI Guidelines for Wellington Catholic DSB

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is transforming education by enhancing learning experiences, personalizing instruction, and streamlining administrative tasks. Wellington Catholic DSB is committed to integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a manner that aligns with our values and educational goals. These guidelines aim to ensure that whenever AI is used, it is used responsibly and effectively, enhancing the educational experience and day-to-day work, while safeguarding the values and principles of the Wellington Catholic District School Board.

Using AI should further enable the Wellington Catholic community to empower our students and staff to develop their God-given gifts, honour the sacredness of all, and create a brighter tomorrow.

Ontario’s Enhancing Digital Security and Trust Act (EDSTA) regulates the use of GenAI. These guidelines align with the IPC–OHRC Principles for the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (January 2026) and Ontario’s Responsible Use of AI Directive. Wellington Catholic DSB will continue to evolve its practices to meet provincial privacy and human rights obligations. This is a living document that will be updated as necessary and is intended to help guide students and staff using GenAI in their practice.

These GenAI Guidelines are intended to support the thoughtful, ethical, and faith‑centred use of artificial intelligence within Wellington Catholic DSB. By grounding emerging technologies in Catholic social teaching, respect for human dignity, and a commitment to equity, transparency, and responsible stewardship, Wellington Catholic DSB seeks to ensure that AI enhances teaching, learning, and operational practices without replacing the essential human relationships at the heart of Catholic education.

As GenAI technologies continue to evolve, these guidelines will be reviewed and refined to reflect new developments, ongoing discernment, and the shared responsibility of staff, students, and the broader community to use technology in ways that serve the common good and uphold the mission of Catholic education.
