On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, PowerSchool notified Wellington Catholic DSB and other school boards in Ontario and across North America that a PowerSchool system had experienced a data breach between December 22-28, 2024.

The safety and security of student and staff information continues to be our top priority. Updates will also continue to be posted as they become available.

Update - October 2025

The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario has released its final report regarding the cyberattack on PowerSchool, the student information system provider for many school boards including Wellington Catholic DSB. We have thoroughly reviewed the findings and recommendations, and are committed to implementing necessary changes. We are grateful that the IPC acknowledged our timely and proper notification efforts following the incident.

We are committed to maintaining the privacy of our students and staff, and it is imperative that our technology vendors uphold strong security measures to protect our systems and sensitive information. Following the cyberattack, PowerSchool has pledged to enhance its security measures. We will monitor this process closely and ensure that the improvements are implemented.

Additionally, we support the Commissioner’s call for collaborative efforts among school boards to secure shared vendors. We are dedicated to collaborating with our colleagues across the province to achieve this goal.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
