Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)
The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (commonly referred to as OYAP) works hand in hand with the Co-operative Education Program at both Wellington Catholic. OYAP is a specialized school to work option that offers students co-operative education credits for work experience placements in skilled trades. These work experiences for Grade 11 and 12 students are intended to open the door to apprenticeship opportunities during a student's senior high school years and can lead to apprenticeship registration for students.

Introduction to OYAP Level 1 Apprenticeship Dual Credit Program

In partnership with Conestoga College and the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities, 8 Level 1 Apprenticeship Programs will be offered.
Successful applications will be required to have a Registered Training Agreement (Apprenticeship Registration) with an employer licensed in the Skilled Trade.
Evidence of skills developed and experience gained will be required for an employer to agree to register a secondary school student as an apprentice. Students should plan well in advance for this opportunity by incorporating related technology courses, co-op, volunteer and work experience into their secondary pathway. Students will be expected to actively seek out possible employers.
Candidates for the Level 1 OYAP Dual Credit will be required to have an interview with Conestoga College. The interviews take place in person on campus and will be conducted by a College staff and a School Board staff member. Students will be notified of the date and time of the interview and should come prepared with a resume, credit summary and attendance summary (these can be picked up at the school's guidance office)

OYAP Level 1 Apprenticeship Dual Credit Programs will be offered in the following Skilled Trades:

  • Automotive Service Technician
  • Brick and Stone Mason
  • Truck and Coach
