The Kindergarten Program

Kindergarten at Wellington Catholic District School Board is a faith-based two year program where children learn through play, exploration and inquiry. During these two years, young students are introduced to the Wellington Catholic family and are provided with an important foundation for later learning.

Our educators committed to providing a nurturing, secure, and supportive environment so that each student continues to grow and develop spiritually, emotionally, academically, socially and physically. Learning in a Catholic environment is a unique and important part of our program. It fosters an early understanding of how we grow and celebrate together. Our youngest learners engage in activities that offer experiences which reinforce the attitudes, feelings and values inherent in Christian living. Children’s faith is nurtured every day, and there are many opportunities to gather and participate in celebrations and prayer.

Learning and growing in kindergarten focuses on the following key areas:

  • Fostering a sense of genuine belonging for your child
  • Ensuring they feel their contributions matter
  • Developing self-regulation skills
  • Supporting well-being
  • Developing literacy and math skills
  • Supporting problem solving
  • Exploring innovation
  • Religion & Faith

Kindergarten classrooms have a team of Early Years educators which include a qualified teacher and qualified early childhood educator. Together the team offers complementary skills that create a learning environment to support the unique needs of each child. With two qualified professionals in the classroom for the full school day, there is more time for individual and small group instruction. The program is play based where students are given opportunities to grow, explore, investigate, create and learn.

Some sites may offer an integrated before- and after-school program which provides children with more opportunities to learn and grow and provides a seamless day with fewer transitions for children and families. Information about the Extended Day Program is available here .
