Bishop Macdonell, St. James, St. Joseph and St. Michael Students Switch to Remote Learning ahead of Christmas Break

All Bishop Macdonell Catholic High School, St. James Catholic High School, St. Joseph Catholic School in Guelph and St. Michael Catholic School students will learn remotely from home Dec. 15-17, 2021.

Over the past several days, the Bishop Macdonell CHS, St. James CHS, St. Michael, and St. Joseph - Guelph school communities have experienced increases in COVID-19 cases along with a growing number of students and staff identified as high-risk case contacts requiring self-isolate due to potential exposure to the omicron COVID-19 variant. This has created significant operational challenges with respect to staff availability as well as the continuity of learning within these schools.

In order to ensure student and staff safety, and the continuity of learning for students, the Wellington Catholic District School Board has made the decision to close these four schools, beginning Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021 and will shift from in-person learning to remote learning for the duration of Dec. 15-17, 2021. Families will be receiving information today from their schools with instructions on accessing learning tasks for the remainder of the week.

As the investigation of potential related cases continues, we are taking a cautious approach to avoid unnecessary exposure. If Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health deems students to be a high-risk contact of a potential case, families will be contacted directly.

As a reminder, Dec. 18 to Jan. 2 is our scheduled Winter Break. We will continue to provide communication to families as we prepare for the return to school following the break.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we work through the challenges related to our current circumstances
