Each member of the team is an employee of the Wellington Catholic District School Board. Many challenging situations arise within the school experience. By working collaboratively, the team provides a wide range of support to the students, families, and school personnel. 

Superintendent responsible for Student Support Services 

The Superintendent responsible for Student Support Services provides direction and assistance to the Student Support Services team including system staff, elementary and secondary special education teachers and school administration on specific Board and Ministry procedures relating to Special Education. The Superintendent also supervises the allocation of SSS staff and provides support to the Special Education Advisory Committee. The Superintendent gathers special education data to facilitate the development and implementation of the Special Education Plan. 

Assistant Supervisor Student Support Services

Offers support to Principals and their school teams in the delivery of special education programs and services.

Program Coordinators with responsibility for Special Education 

The Program Coordinators with responsibility for Special Education report to the Superintendent responsible for Special Education. The coordinators provide support with programming for students with special needs, help to determine appropriate school, system, and/or community resources to support student and family needs and build capacity of staff supporting students with special needs. 

Board Certified Behaviour Analysts 

The Board Certified Behaviour Analysts support students with challenging behaviours by developing recommendations and a behaviour support plan to enhance their learning environment to suit their needs and reduce the occurrence of challenging behaviour.  They also collaborate with the school team, parents and community partners to identify their priority goals. 

Special Education Resource Teachers (SERT) 

The Special Education Resource Teacher is a qualified special education teacher who works in collaboration with the Principal, Student Support Services Coordinator and the system team of Special Education Resource Teachers in the delivery of special education program and services. 

The Special Education Resource Teacher provides direct service to students, acts as a resource to parents and staff for students with special education needs, either formally identified exceptional or known to be exceptional. 

 Speech-Language Pathologists 

The schools’ Speech-Language Pathologists provide assessment, consultation, in servicing, and program support to those students with speech and language needs. Each school has access to working with their school Speech-Language Pathologist who provides support to the Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT), the classroom teacher and most importantly, the students, by supporting them in their academic program. 

ASD System Special Education Resource Teacher (ASD SERT) 

ASD SERT supports schools with students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder.   The ASD SERT also facilitates the connections process for students who are returning from Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) to a traditional school setting. 

System Assistive Technology SERT 

The System Assistive Technology SERT provides assistance for students requiring assistive technology to access the curriculum.  Specifically, the System Assistive Technology SERT will help to train and support classroom staff, students, and families understand the role of technology to support student achievement. 

Blind / Low Vision SERT 

Blind and Low Vision Teachers provide direct and/or consultative services for students relating to their visual impairment. The level of support depends on the severity of the eye condition. The role of the itinerant teacher is enhanced by close communication with the classroom teacher and the student's parents. 

Deaf and Hard of Hearing SERT 

The Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provide speech, language, academic support and auditory services for deaf and hard of hearing students. The role of the itinerant teacher is enhanced by close communication with the classroom teacher and the student's parents. 

School Child & Youth Workers 

Child & Youth Workers have specialized training working with children and youth with social, emotional, and behavioural challenges.  

System Child & Youth Workers 

Work collaboratively with the school support team to develop proactive strategies and programs aimed at enhancing student success. 

Social Workers 

Social Workers provide clinical support to students struggling with social or emotional problems, mental health or addiction issues, or family or relationship issues that are interfering with their ability to be successful in school. 

Educational Assistants 

Educational Assistants support students with special education needs within a variety of school settings.  Educational Assistants help the student with learning activities under the direction of the classroom teacher and Special Education Resource Teacher.
