How to Prepare for Kindergarten
Getting ready for school can be a very exciting time for you and your child. Here are some tips and suggestions on what you can do before your child starts school: Kindergarten Preparing Your Child
Learning Begins at Home
- Love from a parent/caregiver
- Talk about everything you are experiencing together
- Listen and ask questions to encourage your child to express their thinking
- Sing songs, nursery rhymes, poems and riddles
- Read Aloud to your child every day
- Explore outside
- Take neighborhood trips – visit the grocery store, library, playgrounds,
- Play with other children – learning from others in a variety of settings, games, activities and lived experiences will develop your child’s background knowledge
- Draw and create pictures and art with a variety of materials
- Explore writing, learn to write their name, make cards, letters, signs, little books
- Build with blocks or sand structures
- Play with puzzles
- Household learning – sort cutlery, set the table, match socks when folding laundry
